Complement component C2 is a component of the classical complement pathway and is involved in activation of C3 and C5. C2 consists of a single polypeptide chain with a molecular mass of 102 kDa (2).
Complement component C2 isolated from human plasma adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide gel(1)
HYB 050-08 is specific for C2 from human plasma/serum. Cross-reactivity to C2 from other species has not been tested.
Epitope specificity differs from that of HYB 050-04 and HYB 050-05 as determined by inhibition ELISA.
HYB 050-08 reacts strongly with C2. A strong reaction is seen with human serum/plasma and no reaction is seen with serum from patients deficient in C2, when tested in sandwich ELISA with a polyclonal antibody against C2. In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, HYB 050-08 reacts with C2 and a subfraction of C2 believed to be C2b, both under reducing and non-reducing conditions. A dilution guideline of 1/250 has proved successful (1). In ELISA, reaction is also seen with C2 directly coated onto the microtiter well.
